Why word length matters

Browse words by length across every list from 2 letter words to 8 letter words. Length is the first filter in almost every puzzle: crossword slots, Wordle guesses and rack plays all start with how many letters you need. Each length page carries featured words, standard tile scores and links to full meanings.

1

Puzzles fix the length before you know a single letter: Wordle-style games run five, Text Twist runs six or seven, and every crossword slot tells you its length up front.

2

Short words are connectors: two- and three-letter words fit tight boards, rescue awkward racks, and make parallel plays possible.

3

Longer words score bigger: more tiles means more points, and in seven-tile games a full-rack play earns a bonus on top.

4

Anagram skill grows by length: rearranging six letters is a different habit from spotting the four-letter word hiding inside them, and practicing by length trains both.

How to use word length with the word finder

The word finder works by length, whatever you’re solving.

1

Enter your letters in the word unscrambler; results come back grouped by length, longest first, each with its standard tile score.

2

Solving for one length? Read just that group: a six-letter crossword slot means the 6-letter group is your shortlist.

3

Use a ? for a blank or wildcard tile and the finder fills it with every possible letter.

4

Checking game validity? Pick the North American or International list in the finder, or look any word up in the dictionary.
